Grants.gov Overview
Objective: To assist faculty and
staff experience a smoother transition into using grants.gov,
the Office of Research Development created an e-learning
overview course of the grants.gov process. Instruction includes
finding grant opportunities, downloading and completing
grants.gov application packages.
Intended Audience: Administrative and other support
staff, faculty and graduate students involved in the
administration of research, training or other sponsored projects
funded by extramural sources

prior to beginning your session.
Find Grant Opportunities
Basic Search -- This module leads you through the Basic
Search function in grants.gov. Basic search allows users to
search by keyword, Funding Opportunity Number (FON) or Catalog
of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) number.
Browse by Category -- This module introduces you to the
browse by category search function in grants.gov. The browse by
category search allows users to search by a variety of
categories of funding activities, such as environment, health,
education, food and nutrition, etc.
Browse by Agency -- This module shows you how to use the
browse by agency function in grants.gov. The browse by agency
search allows users to search from a list of agencies offering
grant opportunities including all 26 federal grant making
agencies.
Advanced Search --This module demonstrates how to use
the advanced search function in grants.gov. The advanced search
function allows users to search by more specific criteria such
as funding instrument type, eligibility or sub-agency.
Apply for Grants
Download PureEdge Viewer -- To begin the
Grants.gov application process users need to download and
install the free application viewer, PureEdge.
Download Grant Application Package -- Once faculty
identify a funding opportunity to apply for, they need to
download the grant application package. Downloading a grant
application package allows you to complete the package offline
and route it through your organization for review before
submitting.
Complete the Grant Application Package -- This module
covers the basic instructions for navigating the grants.gov
application package and completing the forms within the package.
Each funding agency has specific instructions for completing the
application forms and package, users should refer to those
guidelines and policies for details.
