Bergin, Margaret |
Margaret Bergin serves as the Business Manager and Research Administrator for the USC Belle W. Baruch Institute for Marine and Coastal Sciences, a multi-disciplinary research institute which includes the Baruch Marine Field Laboratory and the North Inlet-Winyah Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve located in Georgetown, SC. She provides grant pre-award assistance, such as budget preparation, compliance with sponsor guidelines, and proposal submission (e.g. grants.gov and FastLane) to faculty and staff submitting proposals through the Institute. She is also responsible for post-award grant management such as budget issues, cost share, subawards, time and effort reporting, and close-out. Her other duties include personnel and non-grant budget management. She has a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and a Master of Science in Marine Science from the University of SC, and has worked at USC for over 28 years. |

Bové, Nancy |
Nancy Bové began her University career 12 years ago in the Payroll department before becoming the Business Manager in Civil & Environmental Engineering.
Originally from Montreal, Canada, Nancy moved to South Carolina in 1994. She received her B.S. in Business Administration in Accounting from USC in 2002. As Business Manager, she handles all departmental and research accounts, purchasing, student and adjunct hires, international Visa applications, travel, and assists faculty with budget and proposal preparation and post-award administration. |

Ceselski, Andrea (CRA) |
Andrea Ceselski is a Sponsored Program Administrator for USC Sponsored Awards Management. Primary responsibility is as Administrator for Departments of Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry, and Pyschology, and the Baruch Institute and the INBRE program, providing pre-award administration and non-fiscal post-award administration. Has worked at SAM since 1989. Andrea serves as a resource for the Basic Budgets, Advanced Budgets and Cost Share courses. |

Christmus, Dan (CRA) |
Dan Christmus is a Senior Sponsored Program Administrator in Sponsored Awards Management. He is the administrator serving the School of Medicine, the College of Social Work. and the College of Pharmacy. Responsible for both pre-award and post award (non-financial) activities, Dan also serves as the coordinator of the SAM Health Sciences Team. He has worked in the SAM office for more than 21 years. |

Coggins, Tommy |
As the Director, Office of Research Compliance, Thomas Coggins is responsible for oversight and management of non-fiscal compliance activities related to sponsored research including drafting and implementing policy, serving as USC liaison to federal agencies, preparing compliance related training programs, and coordinating several institutional compliance committees (e.g. Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human Subjects and University Conflict of Interest Committee) |

Etheredge, Steve (CRA) |
Steve Etheredge is Director of Pre-Award Services at the University of South Carolina, having previously served as Sponsored Program Administrator and Associate Director of Sponsored Programs & Research at USC. His more than 20 years experience in research administration includes service at the departmental level..
In his current position, he oversees a staff of 11 research administrators who manage a current sponsored programs portfolio of $150 million per year. The pre-award services unit at USC handles both pre-award and non-financial post-award activities.
A member of both the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) and the Society of Research Administrators (SRA), Steve served on the program committee for the NCURA Region III meeting in April, 1998, and participated in a panel presentation on “Administering Multi-disciplinary, Multi-Departmental Awards” at the NCURA Financial Research Administration Conference in February, 2005. He has also conducted numerous internal research administration training sessions for faculty, administrators, and students at USC. |

Greer, Rebecca |
Rebecca Greer manages projects for the University Payroll office, and was instrumental in the implementation of ITAMS, the University's Internet Time and Attendance Management System, which is the only 'mission critical' client server system currently in place at the University. In addition to supervising the support, activities and enhancements for ITAMS, she handles special projects, develops content for the payroll web site, and assists in updating payroll policies and procedures, and compliance monitoring. Rebecca also assists in incorporating new technology into payroll information and processes, and develops training and presentation materials for University employees.
A graduate of USC, Rebecca has more than 20 years of financial, project management and information technology experience at the University. She has a well-rounded knowledge of the Business and Finance Division, having served more than 10 years in the office of the Vice President/Finance, coordinating institutional-level projects, assisting in budget development and reporting, and in the creation of reports for the USC Board of Trustees and external legislative and state offices. During those early years, she developed some of the first PC-based analytical and report tools used by Business Officers at the University and facilitated electronic exchange of data between internal and external departments, divisions and agencies. A graduate of the College Business Management Institute (CBMI) in Kentucky, Rebecca was the Manager of Student Fees and Refunds in Financial Services prior to moving to the Payroll Office in 2001. |

Hambrick, Gina |
Gina Hambrick is a Fiscal Analyst for the University of South Carolina, Contract and Grant Accounting. She is responsible for assuring awards are in compliance with the University of South Carolina, Federal, and State fiscal policies and procedures. Gina earned an Associate in Accounting from Midlands Technical College and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Columbia College. She will receive her certificate as a certified Grant Manager from Management Concepts in September 2005. Gina has 5 years experience in grant management. |

Hardaway, Chad |
Chad Hardaway, P.E. MBA worked for seven years with Eastman Chemical Company in Columbia, SC as a chemical process engineer where he was involved in developing patentable technologies, formulating business strategies, and running a major area of the PET process. He left Eastman Chemical Company in 2003 to start law school at the University of South Carolina. He joined the Intellectual Property Office full time as a Senior Licensing Associate in June after working as a law clerk in the office. His academic areas of coverage are the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, and the Life Sciences. Chad has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering (1996) and a MBA (2001) from the University of South Carolina. He received his Professional Engineering License in 2002. |

Harmon, Kristi |
Kristi Harmon is the Grants Administrator for the Department of Exercise Science in the Arnold School of Public Health. She is responsible for managing post-award extramural research grant business for senior investigators as well as assisting with pre-award research grants for the department. Kristi has a B.S. in Business Administration in Accounting from USC. |

Heacock, Ruth (CRA) |
Ruth Heacock serves as the Budget Director for the College of Engineering and Computing, and previously served as the Business Manager for the Department of Chemical Engineering. She has 16 years experience in proposal development, including budget preparation, compliance with sponsor guidelines and proposal submission; and post award grant management, including budget issues, cost share, extension requests, reporting requirements, time and effort reporting, subawards, and close-out. Her other responsibilities include personnel and non-grant budget management for the College of Engineering and Computing. She has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle, and has worked at USC for over 14 years. |

Herron, Beth |
Beth Herron works as a Program Coordinator with the Institute for Families in Society (IFS), a multi-disciplinary research unit which seeks to enhance the well-being of families at the community, state, national, and international levels. She provides grant pre-award assistance, including identifying possible funding opportunities; checking compliance with sponsor guidelines; preparing budgets; and assisting with proposal preparation and submission. In addition, she provides support to IFS faculty with editing and formatting of articles, reports, and other written materials. Beth has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania, and earned a Masters degree in Public History from the University of South Carolina. Prior to joining IFS, she worked at Historic Columbia Foundation, and, for the last ten years, at the University as a grants administrator, in both the Department of Physics and the College of Social Work. |

Huggins, Tony |
Tony Huggins is the Director of the Office of Contract and Grant Accounting at the University of South Carolina. He has 15 years experience working with Sponsored Programs. His office focuses on compliance with Federal, State, and other guidelines of the various sponsors of Research and other restricted endeavors of the University. He oversees audits and all accounting rules and regulations as they apply to Sponsored Programs. Tony is a USC graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. |

Hutto, Wanda (CRA) |
Wanda Hutto serves as the Research Development (http://www.sc.edu/researchdev/) Director for the University of South Carolina (USC), Office of Research and Health Sciences. Her primary responsibility is to facilitate university-wide collaborative faculty teams to develop multimillion dollar multidisciplinary federal research proposals. As the Director, she has spearheaded efforts to obtain funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Homeland Security, Duke Endowment, and W.M. Keck Foundation totaling more than $200 million dollars.
She also designed and implemented the Gamecock Research Administrators Network and Training (GRANT) certificate training program which consists of 20 courses with e-learning modules. GRANT (http://grant.sc.edu/) includes eleven required core courses are designed to build competencies in basic research administration topics. An additional nine optional courses are available which are geared towards more specific or advanced topics. Combining any two of these optional courses (as chosen by the participant) allows GRANT to become a specialized training program.
Hutto administers five University Research Funding Programs (http://rfp.research.sc.edu/) designed to enhance research infrastructure and to increase external application competitiveness, faculty collaborations, and undergraduate research. These programs are overseen by a faculty Research Council drawn from a variety of academic disciplines. She also has directed special funding initiatives including the Coastal Resiliency Information Systems Initiative for the Southeast (CRISIS) in August 2005. These CRISIS grants have enabled USC researchers to investigate Hurricane Katrina by capturing perishable data related to the recovery of natural processes and ecosystems, and by examining the societal changes stemming from the relocation of impacted residents and the rebuilding of communities. In addition, she organized a National Summit showcasing researchers’ measures and outcomes. Researchers have doubled the University investment with federal grants.
During her tenure with USC, Hutto attended the USC Masters of Business program and earned her national Certified Research Administrator (CRA) from the National Research Administrators Certification Council (NCURA).
Earlier in her career, Hutto spent nine years with the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC). She administered the Statewide Water Quality Program funded by a $15 million federal grant which included providing training grants management training for sub-recipients from local and state governments, non-profit organizations, and the private sector. Grant guidance Hutto created for the water quality program earned distinction from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a national model. While at DHEC, Hutto completed the Associate Public Manager Program and was recognized as Employee of the Year in 1997.
Before relocating to Columbia, Hutto worked for the College of Charleston in the Professional Development Office after she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Charleston in 1989. |

Jordan, Annette |
Annette Jordan is the supervisor of the Travel Office for the University of South Carolina, Controller's Office. She coordinates and supervises the processing of travel authorizations and reimbursements for all USC campuses in accordance with Federal and State regulations and University policies and procedures. Annette also coordinates and manages the operation of the University travel accounting system in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and has responsiblity for submitting required reports of financial activity to regulatory agencies and others. Her accounting experience spans18 years. |

Kelly, Bill |
Bill Kelly serves as the Assistant Director of Payroll and Supervisor of Student Payroll. He is responsible for reconciliation of certain Payroll Liability accounts, and assists with maintenance of Payroll Control Totals. Bill also works with the International Tax Office to ensure compliance of Tax Regulations for International Students, and keeps up with Government Tax Laws regarding Payroll.
As Supervisor of Student Payroll he ensures all hourly and salaried students are paid on a timely basis. This involves supervision of staff members making sure all employees are paid correctly, accounts are charged properly, and ITAMS hours are collected according to schedules.
Bill started with the University in 1981, and has worked in the Faculty/Staff, Deduction, and Student Payroll areas during those 24 years. |

Kirkland, David |
David works in the office of Contract and Grant Accounting in the position of Grant Account and Research Administrator. He works with the departments within Biology, Geography, Aiken, Upstate and Brauch. He brings over 25 years of experience, from the private sector, dealing with Budgets and Regional Management within the fields of Manufacturing, Retail, Healthcare and Communications. David is a graduate of USC with a degree in Finance. |

Little, Jim |
Coming from 21 years in private industry, Jim Little currently works in the SAM office as the Business Operations and HR coordinator. He initially worked from 1995-1999 in the South Carolina EPSCoR office as the Business Manager, and then from 1999-2005 as the Business Manager for the Department of Chemical Engineering. He has extensive background in research proposal budget development and cost sharing. Utilizing Excel to design budgeting tools for rapid and accurate development involving multiple PIs and Institutions, in addition to other research "tools", is something he enjoys. |

Lockhart, Stephanie |
Stephanie Lockhart is Manager of General Accounting for the University of South Carolina, Controller's Office. She manages the daily functions of the University General Ledger Accounting system to ensure compliance with federal, state and agency policies, procedures and regulations. Stephanie also manages the cash and banking activities for the University System in association with the State Treasurer's Office and the State Comptroller General's Office. She is a 1994 Newberry College graduate with a B.S. Accounting with Business Minor. Over 10 years of accounting experience. |

Linda Mabry serves as Budget Manager for the College of Arts & Sciences. Prior to her position in Arts & Sciences, she was the Business Manager for the Department of Geological Sciences. She has 19 years of USC experience at the departmental level and many years of experience in private industry. She received a B.S. in Education from the University of Tennessee in 1972. |

Manigo, Venis |
Venis Manigo is born in Walterboro, SC and attended public schools of Colleton county, graduated from Walterboro High School in 1976 Graduated with a BA in Business Administration from Furman University in Greenville, SC in 1980. Ms. Manigo came to the University in 1992 after working for 4 1/2 years at the Budget and Control Board˙s Information Technology Management Office as a Procurement Specialist. She started her career as an Information Technology buyer and is currently the Director of Purchasing. Over the years, Ms. Manigo has served in several different capacities: Carolinas Minority Supplier Council board of directors, Eau Claire Cooperative Health Clinic board of directors, Co-Chair of Family Fund initiatives and Community Advisory Committee for President Sorensen. She has been participating with Precepts Bible study at Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Columbia SC for over 5 years and enjoys spending time with family and friends. She enjoys puttering in her yard and working out at the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness center. |

Marshall, Elaine (CRA) |
Elaine Marshall is the director of Grants & Foundation Relations at USC Upstate. She has been with the University 12 years and works with all faculty and staff on the Upstate campus who pursue grant funding. After completing the GRANT program in May 2007, Elaine also passed the Certified Research Administrator exam. Elaine has a BA in English and History and an MA in English Literature from Clemson, where she also taught full-time before coming to USC. |

Melissa Mattison serves as the Research Development Assistant for the Office of Sponsored Awards Management at the University of South Carolina Office of Research and Health Sciences. She identifies and disseminates funding opportunities to faculty and coordinates special funding opportunities. Melissa also assists in the development of large collaborative projects. Prior to her work in Research Development, Melissa worked in the Office of Contract and Grant Accounting at the University of South Carolina. McElwain, Danielle (CRA) |
Danielle McElwain serves as the Research Development Training Manager for the University of South Carolina (USC), Office of Research and Health Sciences. Her primary responsibility is to facilitate and update the Gamecock Research Administrators Network and Training (GRANT) certificate training program which consists of 20 courses. GRANT includes eleven required core courses which are designed to build competencies in basic research administration topics, as well as, nine elective courses which are geared towards more specific or advanced topics. Allowing participants to combine any of two of elective courses allows GRANT to become a specialized training program. In her role as training manager, Danielle has added e-learning courses to the GRANT curriculum. The first e-learning course, USCERA, was released in January 2007.
Danielle also assists with the facilitation of university-wide collaborative multi-million dollar multidisciplinary federal research proposals. In this role, she assists research teams in the development of collaborative proposals by working with the other members of the Research Development team to facilitates preliminary meetings among research units, assist with the identification of collaborators and development of partnerships, directs the proposal development process by creating timelines, organizing the proposal sections, and coordinating the proposal submission and interacts with sponsors to provide guidance.
During her time at USC, Danielle has earned her national Certified Research Administrator Certification (CRA) from the Research Administrators Certificate Council. She has presented at several regional National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) conferences. Before coming to USC, Danielle was employed with Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky for five years. During her tenure there, she worked in Sponsored Programs as an electronic information manager searching for funding opportunities, managing electronic databases and performing pre-award review of proposals. She also has vast experience working in post award grants management and departmental administration of sponsored programs. Danielle earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance and a Masters in Business Administration from Murray State University. |

Rauch, Holly |
Holly Rauch is the Administrative Coordinator for the Office of Grants and Contracts in USC's College of Education. She is responsible for grant pre-award assistance to faculty members, including identifying funding opportunities; checking compliance with sponsor guidelines; and assisting with proposal editing, formatting and submission. She is also responsible for post-award expenditure paperwork, and maintains the COE Grants Office website and databases. She has a B.A. in History from USC, an A.A. from Midlands Tech in Paralegal Studies, and is a Spring, 2007 graduate of USC's GRANT program. Prior to joining the College of Education in 2003, she was a contract administrator for a not-for-profit consortium that managed a $100 million, multi-year, Office of Naval Research Cooperative Agreement. |

Riley, Joyce |
Joyce Riley is the Assistant Manager for Unclassified Compensation and FTE Management in the USC Division of Human Resources, Office of Salary Administration. Her primary responsibilities include advising on classification and compensation issues for faculty and staff and managing the University˙s 5,000+ FTE˙s to insure appropriate funding balances are maintained. She is a graduate of Southern Wesleyan University and has been with USC for 19 years. |

Roscoe, Robert |
Bob Roscoe is the Assistant Director for the Institute for Families in Society (IFS), a multi-disciplinary research unit which seeks to enhance the well-being of families at the community, state, national, and international levels. He is responsible for budgeting, fiscal management, and leading the administrative team. He has fifteen years experience as a senior level manager leading teams for a public agency and retired after a 25-year career in law enforcement, eleven of which he held the position of Second in Command of a 74-person agency. Shuler, Laverne (CRA) |
LaVerne Shuler serves as a Project Coordinator in the University of South Carolina, Department of Exercise Science, Arnold School of Public Health. She has primary responsibility as the field center coordinator on the Trial of Activity for Adolescent Girls (TAAG) - a collaborative, multi-center, physical activity intervention study funded by NIH. Her core responsibilities include project management, staff hiring and supervision; recruitment of school and subjects into research studies; budget preparation and management; preparation of grant progress reports and IRB applications; and participation in research planning for new grant applications. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in mechanical engineering from The City College of New York (1980) and has over 18 years of project management experience in commercial, military, and university settings. |

Tipton, Jeff |
Jeff Tipton is an Administrator in the Office of Sponsored Awards Management (SAM). Prior to joining the SAM Pre-Award Services team two years ago, Jeff worked for the South Carolina Department of Public Safety's Office of Justice Programs as a Program Coordinator. During his four years with SCDPS, Jeff administered and supervised U.S. Department of Justice funds that were awarded to the State of South Carolina from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) in Washington, D.C. Jeff has a B.S. in Criminal Justice (1997) from East Carolina University, a M.C.J. in Criminal Justice (2000), and a M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration (2002) from the University of South Carolina. |

White, Richard (CRA) |
Richard White is a program manager for the Office of Sponsored Awards Management. He moved to research administration after a 20-year career in marketing and public relations in both state government and publicly-held Fortune 500 health care, manufacturing, and distribution corporations. Richard earned his bachelors and masters degrees in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of South Carolina, and his MBA from the University of Memphis. A GRANT program graduate, he is also certified in research administration (CRA) by the national Research Administrators Certification Council, and has served as an adjunct professor in the USC College of Mass Communication and Information Studies. |

Zinna, Linda |
Linda Zinna is the Accounting Supervisor in the Contract and Grant Accounting Department for the University of South Carolina. She trains new grant accountants, and supervises office personnel and work study students. She also organizes training for other departments. Her primary responsibility is monitoring awards and contracts utilizing all tools available to University employees including Data Warehouse, Intranet, IMS, OnDemand and Grant Summary. Linda holds a Masters degree from Dowling College in New York and has been at the University of South Carolina for almost nine years. |
